EG9.1: Emergency plan and exits

Each facility or mobile unit must have a practical written emergency plan.

It must cover fire, severe weather, escape, flooding, loss of power or water, equipment failure and sudden operator incapacity.

Exits must be clear and usable. The plan must identify emergency contacts, a safe assembly or temporary holding area, and how every dog will be accounted for.

EG9.2: Fire protection

Fire detection and firefighting equipment must be suitable for the facility and its risks, accessible and maintained.

Required building fire systems, evacuation procedures and any approved evacuation scheme required by law must be in place.

Fuel, hair, lint and other combustible materials must not accumulate near ignition sources.

Human and canine first-aid supplies, emergency contacts and suitable emergency containment equipment must be readily available.

Anyone working alone or opening the facility must know how to raise the alarm and arrange urgent veterinary assistance and transport.

Assessment covers emergency readiness and supplies, not clinical or grooming qualifications.

Readily accessible human and canine first-aid supplies, emergency contact details and suitable equipment for emergency containment must be available. People working alone or opening the facility must know how to raise the alarm and arrange urgent veterinary assistance and transport. EG9.4: Stopping and safely resuming operations

The affected area or unit must stop accepting or keeping dogs in unsafe conditions where a facility hazard cannot be controlled.

Dogs already present must have a safe alternative location or collection arrangement.

The area or unit must not reopen until the hazard has been corrected and any necessary cleaning, checks or specialist clearance completed.

Where a facility hazard cannot be controlled, the affected area or unit must stop accepting or retaining dogs in unsafe conditions. Dogs already present must have a safe alternative location or collection arrangement. Reopening must follow correction of the hazard and any necessary cleaning, checks or specialist clearance.
