EG3.1: Escape prevention

The facility must have effective physical controls to prevent dogs escaping.

Doors, gates, windows, fences and mobile-unit openings must remain secure during normal use, handover and ventilation.

A double-door entrance should be provided. Any alternative system must be proven to be equally effective and safe in preventing escape. A sign alone is not a secure barrier.

Entry and exit arrangements must maintain a secure boundary during handover and ventilation. A double-door entrance should be provided. EG3.2: Holding accommodation

Crates, pens and other holding areas must be secure, clean, well ventilated and free from hazards that could trap a dog.

Each dog must have enough room to stand normally, turn around and lie comfortably, with a dry and comfortable resting surface.

Stacked units must be stable and prevent waste or contamination reaching dogs below.

Where dogs wait in a crate, pen or other holding area, it must be secure, ventilated, clean and free from entrapment hazards. It must allow each dog to stand normally, turn and lie comfortably. A dry, comfortable resting surface must be available. Stacked units, if used, must be stable and prevent contamination from above.

EG3.3: Separation and visibility

The facility must be able to separate dogs where contact could cause injury, distress or the spread of infection.

Dogs from different households must have separate holding spaces. Dogs from the same household may share where the dogs and available space make this suitable.

Holding areas must allow a responsible person to observe dogs and reach them promptly.

EG3.4: Water, toileting and waiting provision

Clean drinking water and suitable bowls must be available.

Dogs in holding areas must have access to water unless there is a recorded individual reason for a different arrangement.

The facility must provide a safe toileting arrangement and be able to accommodate collection delays. A separate outdoor yard is not required.

An unattended parked vehicle must not be used as extra holding space.

Requirement

Clean drinking water and suitable bowls must be available, with water accessible to dogs in holding areas unless there is a documented individual reason for an alternative arrangement. There must be a safe toileting arrangement and capacity for collection delays. A separate outdoor yard is not required. Facilities must not rely on an unattended parked vehicle as overflow holding.

Inspect water and toileting provision and the collection-delay arrangement. Holding-specific elements may be N/A where no dogs are held.
