EG1.1: Declared facilities and responsible person

The business must declare every salon, home-based facility and mobile unit it operates or controls.

Each facility must have a person responsible for its safety and be available for assessment. Shared areas that affect the grooming facility must be included.

The business must identify every fixed premises, home-based work area and mobile unit it operates or materially controls, together with the person responsible for facility safety. Each must be available for assessment. Shared areas affecting the grooming facility must be included.

EG1.2: Applicable New Zealand requirements

The facility must meet all relevant New Zealand animal welfare, workplace safety, building, fire, electrical, chemical, water, wastewater and local council requirements.

Required permissions, consents and certificates must be current. Any conditions attached to them must be met.

Where the requirements are unclear, the business must seek advice from the relevant authority or a suitably qualified person.

The business must identify and meet the animal-welfare, workplace-safety, building, fire, electrical, hazardous-substances, water, wastewater and local council requirements applying to its facilities. Required permissions, consents and certificates must be current and their conditions met. Where applicability is uncertain, the business must obtain clarification from the relevant authority or qualified person.

EG1.3: Facility capacity

Each facility must have a stated maximum number of dogs that can safely be present.

This must take account of usable space, secure holding areas, ventilation, access and the ability to evacuate every dog. Dogs waiting for collection must be included.

The facility must not exceed this number. These Standards do not set a fixed floor area per dog or staff-to-dog ratio.

The business must set a practical maximum number of dogs that may be present at each facility, based on usable space, available secure holding, ventilation, access and emergency evacuation. Occupancy must remain within that capacity, including dogs waiting for collection. No fixed floor area per dog or staff-to-dog ratio is imposed by this standard.

EG1.4: Accurate certification claims

The business must describe its certification accurately and identify the facilities covered.

Certification must not be presented as approval of individual groomers, grooming techniques or handling practices.

All Things Dog must be notified of new or significantly altered facilities before they are advertised as certified.

They must not imply certification of individual groomers, grooming techniques or handling practices. New or materially altered facilities must be notified to All Things Dog before being represented as certified.
