Raising a concern about a certified partner

Certification is only worth something if it can be challenged, so we would always rather hear from you than not. **What to send us.** The business name, roughly when it happened, and what you saw or were told. Photographs, messages, invoices and paperwork all help. You can ask us to keep your name confidential, and we will – the only exception is where we are legally required to disclose it, or where a serious welfare risk means we have to involve the SPCA, MPI or your local council. **What happens next.** 1. We acknowledge your concern within one working day. 2. We check it against the specific benchmark the partner was certified under. 3. The partner is given the substance of the concern and a chance to respond. 4. We decide on an outcome – no further action, a corrective action plan with a deadline, suspension, or withdrawal of certification and removal of the listing. 5. You are told the outcome, and if certification is withdrawn it is recorded publicly. **If it is urgent.** We are not an emergency service. If a dog is in immediate danger, contact the [SPCA on 0800 476 222](tel:0800476222) or the Police first, then tell us. **If you are unhappy with our decision.** Reply and ask for a review. A different member of the team, who was not involved the first time, will look at it again.

Before you write

  • How do I get certified?

Start with the application on the Become a Partner page. You'll be asked for your documentation, references and premises details, and we'll come back to you with what's missing before anything is assessed.

  • How long does certification take, and what does it cost?

You have 12 months from your application date to meet the applicable standards and may ask for your initial inspection as soon as you are ready within that period. Timing of assessment depends on the evidence and inspection; applying does not guarantee certification.

  • Can you recommend a specific breeder for me?

We don't rank or recommend individual partners – that would undermine the point of the certification. The breed match quiz and directory filters are the fastest way to narrow the field yourself.

  • I bought a dog from a partner and something has gone wrong.

Contact the breeder first – every certified breeder commits to being reachable after a sale. If you can't resolve it, send us the details and we'll take it up under the benchmark they were certified against.

  • Can you help me rehome a dog?

We aren't a rescue and can't take dogs in. Your nearest breed-specific rescue or the SPCA is the right first call, and a certified breeder will usually take back a dog they bred.

  • Something on the site is wrong or broken.

Tell us what page you were on and what you expected to happen. Screenshots help enormously.

Applications in progress are listed publicly on the notice board, and the standard every partner is held to is published in full.
